What is Januvia (Sitagliptin) used for?

Januvia is used to lower high blood sugar levels for individuals with Type 2 Diabetes. Januvia increases the body’s production of incretins, which raises the insulin production to improve blood glucose levels. Januvia is available under the generic name Sitagliptin.

How to use this drug?

Januvia is taken orally as often as prescribed by the doctor, usually once a day or without meals. The dosage is based on the body’s glucose level, reception to the treatment, and other medications that one might be taking.

Take the Januvia the same time everyday with water. In the case of missing out on a dose, take it as soon as remembered unless close to the next scheduled dose. Otherwise, skip the missed dose and continue on the regular dosing schedule. Avoid double dosing or making up for missed doses as the body has to get used to the consistent regulation of the blood glucose levels. Januvia has to be swallowed whole— do not break or chew tablet.

Follow any other instructions specified by your doctor or indicated on the prescription label.
