Uses of Ketorolac

Ketorolac is a powerful nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) primarily used for short-term management of moderate to severe pain. It is often preferred when strong analgesia is needed but without the use of opioids.

Precautions and Warnings

Before taking ketorolac, some medications should not be taken with ketorolac. Other medications may cause dosing changes or extra monitoring when taken with ketorolac. Make sure you have discussed any medications you are currently taking or plan to take before starting ketorolac with your doctor and pharmacist. Before starting, stopping, or changing any medications while taking ketorolac, please get the advice of your doctor or pharmacist.

The following nonprescription products may interact with ketorolac: aspirin and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others) and naproxen (Aleve). Be sure to let your doctor and pharmacist know that you are taking these medications before you start taking ketorolac. Do not start any of these medications while taking ketorolac without discussing with your healthcare provider.

Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had the conditions mentioned in the IMPORTANT WARNING section or heart failure or swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant; or are breast-feeding. Ketorolac may harm the fetus and cause problems with delivery if it is taken around 20 weeks or later during pregnancy. Do not take ketorolac around or after 20 weeks of pregnancy, unless you are told to do so by your doctor. If you become pregnant while taking ketorolac, call your doctor.

Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of taking ketorolac if you are 65 years of age or older. Older adults should not usually take ketorolac because it is not as safe as other medications that can be used to treat the same condition.

You should know that this medication may make you drowsy or dizzy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how this medication affects you.

Talk to your doctor about the safe use of alcohol while taking this medication. Alcohol can make the side effects of ketorolac worse.
