Triumeq is a combination medication used for the treatment of HIV infection. It contains three active ingredients: dolutegravir, abacavir, and lamivudine. These components work together to inhibit the replication of the HIV virus in the body, helping to manage the infection.

Benefits

Triumeq is effective in reducing the viral load in individuals with HIV, which helps in maintaining a healthier immune system and delaying the progression of the disease. It simplifies treatment by combining three medications into a single tablet.

How to Use

Triumeq is available in film-coated tablets and can be taken with or without food. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and not to take the tablets within two hours before or six hours after consuming iron or calcium supplements, or certain other medications. Consult your healthcare provider for specific dosing instructions.

Possible Side Effects

  • Hypersensitivity reactions
  • Immune reactivation syndrome
  • Osteonecrosis
  • Hepatotoxicity
  • Viral resistance
  • Lactic acidosis
  • Rash

For a comprehensive list of side effects, refer to the product monograph.

Warnings and Precautions

Patients should be tested for HLA-B*5701 before starting treatment with Triumeq due to the risk of serious hypersensitivity reactions associated with abacavir. The medication may increase the risk of myocardial infarction and should be used cautiously in patients with cardiac risk factors. Those with chronic Hepatitis B or C infections are at higher risk for severe liver reactions. Triumeq should not be used alone to treat Hepatitis B.

Storage

Store Triumeq tablets at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep the medication out of reach of children.

Additional Information

Triumeq may interact with a variety of other drugs and herbal supplements. It is important to discuss all medications and supplements you are taking with your healthcare provider. Pregnant women should avoid using Triumeq during the first trimester due to potential risks of neural tube defects. Breastfeeding is not recommended for HIV-positive women to prevent transmission of the virus.
